BAKU, Azerbaijan, December 4. A number of important statements regarding the development of the renewable energy sector in Azerbaijan were made during the outgoing week, Trend reports.

Thus, Rector of the Technical University Vilayat Veliyev said that the production of "green hydrogen" is very profitable for Azerbaijan.

According to him, projects for the production of "green energy" will help to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 40 percent by 2050.

In turn, Adviser to the Minister of Economy of Azerbaijan Emil Medzhidov announced that Azerbaijan aims to bring the production capacity of the wind farm in Garadag to 1.5 gigawatts in the near future.

Meanwhile, Spanish Elecnor company said that it plans to increase investments in the Azerbaijani energy market.

"We are analyzing the resources and potential in Azerbaijan for the development of renewable energy, and then we plan to develop more projects here. We are working to identify areas for further development of wind and solar energy in Azerbaijan," said Virgilio Navarro Sanchez Sicily from the Elecnor Project Development and Management Department.

Japan, in turn, is also exploring opportunities to contribute to the "green" economy of Azerbaijan, Japanese Ambassador to Azerbaijan Junichi Wada said.

Maria Yunda, Director of Schlumberger (SLB) for Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan, also noted that the company will contribute to Azerbaijan's transition to "clean" energy.

At the same time, according to the Romanian SMARTLINK COMMUNICATIONS consulting company, in a few years Azerbaijan will be able to increase its share in the European gas market from the current 2 percent to about 10-15 percent.

Meanwhile, gas production at the giant Shah Deniz field in Azerbaijan is projected to reach 24 billion cubic meters as of 2022, and 25.4 billion cubic meters in 2023.
