Georgian ministry reports on implementation of infrastructure projects

BAKU, Azerbaijan, April 6

By Tamilla Mammadova - Trend:

The Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure of Georgia fulfilled the plan approved by the state budget for the first quarter of 2020 by 106.3 percent, Trend reports citing the ministry.

The report notes that this indicator is the highest in the history of the ministry's work and is by 72 percent higher than for the same period last year.

In connection with the coronavirus pandemic, a state of emergency was declared in Georgia and quarantine was introduced throughout the country. However, the restrictions did not concern the implementation of infrastructure works.

From January through March 2020, the ministry spent 433.9 million lari (about $135.6 million), which is 181 million lari (about $56.6 million) more than in the first quarter of last year.

“Cash expenses in three months account for 21 percent of the plan approved for the 2020 year. Last year, this figure was 12 percent. The plan was also exceeded by 26 million lari (more than $8.1 million) in terms of loans and grants," the report said.

The plan was overfulfilled by the Department of Roads, the Municipal Development Fund, the United Water Supply and Solid Waste Management Company, which are part of the ministry.

Despite the coronavirus, the Department of Roads is actively continuing to build the East-West highway, which is part of the second largest European transit corridor, starting in Brest (France) and going to Irkeshtam (Kyrgyzstan).

As reported, in order to prevent the spread of coronavirus, the road is being built in accordance with the recommendations of the Ministry of Health of Georgia.
