Kazakhstan resuming passenger transportation via railway from country's capital

Kazakhstan is resuming trains operation on a number of internal routes from June 1, 2020, Trend reports with reference to Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Industry and infrastructural Development.

“Passenger trains will be launched starting from June 1, 2020, stage by stage, taking into account the demand of the population and depending on the epidemiological situation in the regions. In particular, 54 trains will be launched at the initial stage,” the ministry said.

The trains will resume operations on the following routes:

- From Nur-Sultan to Almaty, Mangystau, Oskemen, Saryagash, Semey, Arkalyk, Pavlodar, Petropavl, Uralsk, Zheskazhgan, Kyzylorda cities;
- From Almaty to Shymkent, Pavlodar, Aktobe, Mangystau, Saryagash, Oskemen, Zheskazhgan, Uralsk, Petropavl cities;
- From Kyzylorda to Semey city;
- From Kostanay to Karaganda, Arkalyk, Almaty cities;
- From Karaganda to Zheskazhgan;
- From Kyzylorda to Kokshetau, Petropavl and suburbs;

The tickets sale will be launched on May 15, 2020.

The resuming of railway transport operations is planned within the framework of new measures for economy restoration as the emergency state regime is being lifted in Kazakhstan.

On March 15, 2020, Kazakh president signed a decree introducing an emergency state in the country due to the coronavirus outbreak, which came in force on March 16 and was to last till April 15, 2020.

Later, by a decree of Kazakhstan's president, the emergency state period in Kazakhstan was extended till May 1, 2020, and then till May 11, 2020.

The first two cases of coronavirus infection were detected in Kazakhstan among those who arrived in Almaty city from Germany on March 13, 2020.

The total number of coronavirus cases confirmed in Kazakhstan since the virus was first confirmed in the country amounted to 5,417 cases. This includes 2,223 people who recovered from the coronavirus, and 32 patients who passed away.
