The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has invested about 300 million manat ($176.4 million) in the construction of roads in Azerbaijan since 2015, Spokesman for the State Agency of Azerbaijan Automobile Roads, Anar Najafli told Trend.

“In 2013, under a contract with Azerbaijan, the Asian Development Bank allocated a loan for the reconstruction of sections of the Alat-Astara highway. However, as a result of the devaluation in the country in 2015, the contract was renewed,” said Najafli.

“In accordance with the contract, the given amount was used for the construction of new projects: construction of the Ujar-Zardab-Agjabadi highway, 70 kilometers long, 9 underground crossings and 7 new bridges over this road; reconstruction of the 46-kilometer section of Khaldan-Shaki of the M5 highway (Yevlakh-Zagatala-state border with Georgia); construction of 3 road bridges over this road and 7 underground crossings; reconstruction of the nationwide highway to Shaki city, and 5 bridges were built over this road, and it is also planned to build 10 new roads of local importance with a total length of 62 kilometers,” noted Najafli.

The spokesman also added that a total of 190 kilometers long of highways of both local and nationwide importance will be constructed through the allocated amount.
