Iran unveils amount of funds allocated for roads sector in East Azerbaijan Province

Iran allocated 4.13 trillion rials (about $98.4 million) for road and railroad work in the East Azerbaijan Province (northwestern Iran) over the last Iranian year (from March 20, 2020, through March 20, 2021), Director General of the Roads and Urban Development Department of East Azerbaijan Province, Abolghasem Soltani said, Trend reports citing Ministry of Roads and Urban Development of Iran.

“Of this amount, 300 billion rials (about $7.14 million) was allocated by the New Towns Development Company, and 888 billion rials (about $21.1 million) – by the Construction and Development of Transportation Infrastructure Company (CDTIC), 305 billion rials (about $ 7.27 million) – by the Ministry of Roads and Urban Development of Iran, 1 trillion rials (about $ 23.8 million) – by the Islamic Republic of Iran Railways and 1.64 trillion rials (about $39 million) – by Sungun Copper Complex,” the director-general noted.

Soltani added that Iran is planned to lay 617 km of roads in the East Azerbaijan Province. About 131 km of it have been put into operation, so far. About 252 km are under construction and there is 30 percent progress in physical works.

In addition, 2 railway lines are under construction in the province. So, 132 km of the Tabriz-Mianeh railway line has been put into operation, construction work on 57 km of the railway line is underway and work has not started on 15 km of this railway line, according to him.

The director-general said that also, 15 km of the Bostanabad-Sarab railway line has been put into operation, and construction work has not started on 73 km.
