Since 1990, Herpa has produced several hundred thousand Trabant examples as quality models in the 1/87 scale - making the Trabi one of the most successful miniature models of all time. The Trabi turns 50 on November 7,2007 and is still present today like hardly any other historical vehicle. Reason enough for Herpa to give the Trabant a future.
Within the scope of the "Initiative newTrabi", we have taken the first step by purchasing the copyright of the "Trabant" brand from the Trabant-Register e.V. society, and will now present our first draft.
Herpa will present a first design model in the 1/10 scale at IAA Herpa stand in hall 1.1. For further development, the company are banking on the participation of all automobile enthusiasts in "Initiative newTrabi".
Herpa, or Herpa Miniaturmodelle GMBH, is a German manufacturer of die-cast model aircraft under the Herpa Wings trademark and car models under the Herpa Cars & Trucks trademark. The company owns the name Trabant and the production rights. Nevertheless Herpa is not planning to produce the vehicle but to concede the production license to a car manufacturer.
