Azerbaijani Parliament Adopts Bill ‘On Beekeeping’ at First Reading

Azerbaijan, Baku, 3 Dec  / Trend , corr. I.Alizade/ The Azerbaijani Parliament adopts a Bill 'On bee-keeping' at the first reading. The bill envisages order in management of this sphere, as well as state support.

According to Eldar Ibrahimov, the chairman of the Standing Parliamentary Commission on Agrarian Policy, the requirement to develop the document is due to the bee-keeping products are used not only as food, but is widely used in medicine. 

At present, there are 126 thousand bee families in Azerbaijan. A total of 1,000 of them are contained in establishments, which are under the subordination of the Agriculture Ministry, and the rest belong to private owners. The annual production of honey is 1,350 kg, which is considerably lower than the existing potential. According to Ibrahimov, development of bee-keeping is possible due to a small volume of investments, since in Azerbaijan has acceptable climatic conditions and potential possibilities.

"The right use of potential will increase the number of bee families to 600,000 and the production of honey to 14,000 tons," Ibrahimov said.

Today, China takes the first place due to the production of honey, then coming Russia, Australia, Turkey and Ukraine.

Russia, Ukraine, Bulgaria and Turkey adopted the Bill 'On bee-keeping'.

The discussed bill envisages improvement of work to multiply bees, retention and improvement of local bee species and population, genesis, breeding the honey bees that possess the sign of stable heredity.
