Trade Turnover between Azerbaijan and Turkey May Reach $2.5bln to End of 2009: Turkish Minister

Azerbaijan, Baku, 4 Dec. / Trend , corr. U.Ismayilova / "The trade turnover between Azerbaijan and Turkey will be doubled as for the results of 2008 and reach $2.5bln," Gurshad Tuzmen, the State Minister on Foreign Trade of Turkey, said at the Azerbaijani-Turkish business-forum in Baku.

In 2007, export and import operations between Azerbaijan and Turkey was $1.3bln.

"The cooperation between Azerbaijan and Turkey are developed, in spite of the influence of the global financial crisis. I believe that we will overcome the crisis through joint efforts and provide development of the economy," Tuzmen said.

According to Azerbaijani Economic Development Minister Shahin Mustafayev, Azerbaijan is interested in mutual cooperation in infrastructural projects, construction of power stations, cold stores, agricultural sphere, tourism and other sectors of economy.

In Jan-Sep, the turnover between Azerbaijan and Turkey made up $1.1bln and $552mln made up export from Azerbaijan and $590mln from Turkey, the minister said.

The growth rate of GDP (Gross Domestic Product) within nine months was 15% t, with an increase in the gross product per capita of population by 13.7% - to $4,400. On 1 Oct, foreign currency reserves of the country reached $18bln with the increase of 2.3 times. Investments into the economy of Azerbaijan within this period grew by 18.5%- to $9mln.

Ninety Turkish and 200 Azerbaijani businessmen attended the Azerbaijani-Turkish business-forum, which was being held within the framework of visit of Tuzmen to Azerbaijan.
