Mitsubishi Heavy Industries has received an order from the Korea Aerospace Research Institute to launch a satellite, the company said Monday.
The Korea Multipurpose Satellite-3, or KOMPSAT-3, will be aided by the Japanese-built H-2A rocket for a launch from the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency space centre in southern island of Tanegashima in the fiscal 2011, reported dpa.
The negotiations for the satellite launch began in October last year to draw up a contract in time for a bilateral summit meeting between Japan and South Korea Monday, Jiji Press said.
During the meeting in Seoul on Monday, Japanese Prime Minister Taro Aso and South Korean President Lee Myung Bak said the two countries would further advance cooperation in the science and technology fields.
The cost of the launch operations was undisclosed, but it was estimated between 8 billion yen (88.6 million dollars) and 10 billion yen, according to Jiji.
The satellite is aimed to transmit high-resolution images of Earth necessary to analyze geographical information.
