Azerbaijan, Baku, May 8 / Trend , I.Khalilova/
The Asian Development Bank (ADB) begins studies on climate changes in Azerbaijan since July 1, the ADB Baku representation said.
"Bank has selected consultants - individuals. The consultants will assess climate changes in Azerbaijan in 1-3 months depending on the volume of work undertaken by Azerbaijan," the representation said.
The studies will be carried out within the framework of technical assistance of 10 countries from Central Asia, Caucasus, Afghanistan and Pakistan.
In April, ADB approved technical assistance worth $5 million for climate changes in those ten countries.
"Azerbaijan became the first country, which submitted an application to the bank, thus confirming the intention to promote studies. ADB welcomed the readiness of the country to quickly resolve this issue, and sent its mission to Baku," the representation said.
ADB Regional Department specialist Josef Vanshtok made two day visit to Baku the previous week to discuss the issue. He held meetings in the Azerbaijani Ecology and Natural Resources. The Ministry voiced its agreement on assessment of climate changes within Azerbaijan's ecological strategy through ADB's technical assistance.
