Medvedev sees development of Middle East as key target of preparations to APEC summit

Russian President Dmitriy Medvedev called the development of the Middle East as the key target of preparations to the Asian-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) in Vladivostok in 2012, RIA Novosti reported.

"The target is not to surprise foreign guests, to create normal conditions to the summit, but to develop the Primorye and Vladivostok," Medvedev said at a meeting with First Vice Prime Minister Igor Shuvalov and Governor of the Primorye Sergei Darkin.

Medvedev agreed to hold this meeting with the participants during a recent visit to Khabarovsk, and offered to discuss "the preparation of transport, engineering and other infrastructure, and the whole of the APEC summit."

According to the President, the preparation for the summit should not only demonstrate the position of Russia in APEC, the development of international processes, but also the development of Vladivostok and Primorye.

"We must take advantage of opportunities that arise to new organizational structures, new money has been used for inhabitants of Primorye," he said.

APEC summit provides to build two bridges: the Golden Horn Bay and the Russian island - through Bosporus East. A modern infrastructure will be built at the expense of Russian federal budget on the island. It provides for the establishment of a major international business center, several comfortable hotels, tourist and recreational zone. It is planning to erect a Far Eastern Federal University.

It is planning to reconstruct the airport of Vladivostok, build other international terminal, overhauled main city highways, reconstruct and develop the system of urban sanitation during the preparations to the summit.
