Surplus of Azerbaijani public budget makes up 2.9 percent of GDP in Jan-Apr

In January-April 2009, the Public budget income comprised 3,234.2 million manats, or 35.9 percent of GDP. It decreased 5.6 percent, from the last year, a government source said. Public budget expenses rose 39.5 percent and made up 2.972 million manats (33 percent of the GDP). The surpluses of the budget totaled 261.8 million (2.9 percent of GDP).

The Ministry of Taxes remitted 34.1 percent of all income, or 1.104 million manats to the Public budget. The State Customs Committee remitted 442.4 million manats (with a special weight of 13.7 percent) in taxes and duties to the public budget, fulfilling the forecast by 100.1 percent.

In this period a total of 708 million manats was obtained from VAT, or 21.9 percent of all income, 401.5 million manats (12.4 percent)- profit taxes, 189 million manats (5.8 percent) - income taxes, 73.2 million manats (2.3 percent) - excise taxes, 31 million manats (1 percent)- property taxes, and 70.3 million manats (2.2 percent) -taxes from foreign economic activities.

The public budget expense for social security and provision of people comprised 378.2 million manats (12.7 percent). 309.3 million manats (10.4 percent) was spent on education, 95.9 million (3.2 percent) - health, 172.2 million (5.8 percent) - maintenance of prosecutor bodies, security and law-enforcement and court bodies, 1.402 million (47.2 percent)- investment allocations, 47 million (1.6) - housing and communal services, 76.5 million (2.6 percent) - agriculture, fishing, 19.3 million (0.6 percent) - transport and communications, and 30.3 percent (900.4 million manats) of Public expenses were spent on the payment of salaries, pension and allowances.
