Azerbaijan saw first inflation for last five months: NGO

In May, Azerbaijan saw 0.22-percent inflation for the first time since the early 2009. Inflation made up 0.2 percent in Baku and 0.24 percent in regions, Economic Studies Center said.

Relatively highest inflation accounted for service industry - 0.37 percent. Prices on foodstuff increased 0.19 percent and non-foods 0.16 percent.

Prices on pomegranates increased 28.17 percent, eggs 12.06 percent, pasta 3.5 percent and wheat flour 1.41 percent. Price on strawberry dropped 38.11 percent, eggplant 32.48 percent, greens 6.67 percent, tomatoes 5.58 percent and potatoes 5.84 percent.

With regard to non-foods, prices on building materials increased 6.2 percent. Prices on neckties dropped 4.23 percent and pyjamas 3.61 percent. The rent of wedding dresses dropped 7.4 percent.

Deflation was 3.29 percent in January-May and 2.65 percent for the same period of 2008.
