No "swine flu" in Azerbaijan: state veterinary service

Monitoring to warn of A/H1N1 (swine flu) virus which was launched at pig-breeding farms of Azerbaijan on June 1 did not reveal presence of the virus in the country's territory, the State Veterinary Service at the Agriculture Ministry of Azerbaijan said on June 12.

"A total of 343 samples of blood were taken for laboratory analyses. No infection А/H1N1 virus has been found," spokesperson of the service Yolchu Khanvali said.

He said monitoring is held in all regions with pig-breeding farms. The previous monitoring did not reveal infection А/H1N1 virus in the Azerbaijani territory.

The import of cattle stock from American and European contingent has been prohibited to Azerbaijan.

To prevent "swine flu" in the country, all pig farms were transferred to the private placement, the veterinary offices strengthened their activities in the regions and the management of those offices were commissioned to control over the situation.

Pig-breeding farms are in Gabala, Zagatala, Shaki and Balakan regions, as well as Ganja and in settlements in Baku.
