Azerbaijani banks change places in the rankings on volume of assets

The second quarter of 2009 was marked by the moderate rate of the Azerbaijani bank system's growth, ratings.az rating agency's report on 'Azerbaijani banks ranking on sum of assets as of June 30, 2009' said.

The second quarter of 2009 was marked by the moderate rate of the Azerbaijani bank system's growth, ratings.az rating agency's report on 'Azerbaijani banks ranking on sum of assets as of June 30, 2009' said.

If the growth of the sum assets of Azerbaijani banks was negative (- 14.2 percent), there was growth to the amount of 4.3 percent in the second quarter and the sum assets of banks hit 9191.2 million manat. 

The Azerbaijani biggest International Bank's assets hit 3.467 million manat and their market share was 37.7 percent, increasing 4.8% in the first quarter. The assests of Azerbaijan's biggest bank, Bank Standard, hit 524 million manat, its market share was 5.7 percent and its decrease of assets per quarter was 2.9 percent.

An increase in assets was observed in 29 of the 36 banks represented in the rankings for the second quarter. The biggest growth of assets in terms of percent was demonstrated by Yapi Kredi Bank, at 34.7 percent (39 million manat), PashaBank, at 18.8 percent (39 million manat) and АtaBank, at16.8 percent (26 million manat). 

There were no great changes during the quarter, though Yapi Kredi Bank's position changed fairly significantly. It reached 15th place from 18th.  All other changes in position were no more than two places in the rankings.

Change in the ten largest Azerbaijani banks is notable: Azerdemiryolbank left 10th place, passing from from 10th to 11th in the rankings. PashaBank took its place, passing from 11th to 10th place amongst the largest banks.

On August 17, the official exchange rate is 0.804 manat to $1.
