State of domestic tourism in Azerbaijan is satisfactory: Minister

Regardless of the world economic crisis, as well as problems in the infrastructure of world tourism, flow of tourists to Azerbaijan has not been reduced, the Azerbaijani Minister of Culture and Tourism Abulfaz Garayev said today.

"Although it is still early to talk about the results of the year, but the flow of tourists is not expected to reduce. On the contrary, we expect certain growth," the minister said.

He said that the state of domestic tourism is estimated as satisfactory. Although there were some problems with repair of the highway in the north last year, now the road has been repaired. It positively affected the development of domestic tourism.

"The flow of tourists increased 20 percent in this area compared to 2008," the minister said.

The Minister also stressed that the holding of international events in Azerbaijan and declaring of Baku as the capital of Islamic Culture in 2009, also influenced on growth of the number of tourists and active promotion of  tourism potential of the country.
