Tashkent hosts Iranian-Uzbek meeting

Tashkent hosted a meeting of Iranian and Uzbek businessmen this week, the Uzbek Commerce Chamber reported.

The meeting was held in the framework of Uzbekistan AGROMINITECH EXPO-2010, the fifth international mini-agricultural technologies and compact equipment exhibition.

The Iranian delegation included representatives of chambers of commerce, the Qum province and Erak city, including the manufacturers of footwear, household appliances, motor and industrial oils, fibers for carpets and floor coverings, meat food products, clothing, wires and cables, and marketing, trade and agricultural companies.

During the meeting, Iranian and Uzbek entrepreneurs presented their potential and discussed future cooperation. It was noted that the Uzbek-Iranian business relations may deepen during the processing of agricultural products, construction materials and foodstuffs.

There are over 120 joint Iranian-Uzbek companies in Uzbekistan - 20 were established with 100-percent Iranian capital.

Iran consistently ranks among Uzbekistan's top 10 economic partners. According to official statistics, trade turnover between the two countries grew by one percent to $572 million in 2009 and by 79.7 percent to $151.2 million in January-March 2010.
