UN to allocate $188 million to Georgia

Within the cooperation program the UN will allocate $188 million to Georgia. The UN plan to promote Georgia to Georgia's development was signed by Prime Minister Nika Gilauri and the UN permanent coordinator in Tbilisi Jamie McGoldrick.

Gilauri noted that the program defines the main directions of cooperation between Georgia and the UN in the period of 2011-2015. In particular, $188 million will be used for poverty reduction, democratic development and reduce risks of disasters.

"In recent years, we feel a great support of the UN and hope that it will be so in the future," Gilauri said.

Jamie McGoldrick in his urn said that the UN plan to promote Georgia is fully corresponds to the country's national priorities. He said this program was created as a result of long-lasted consultations with the Georgian Government, UN agencies, donors and other interested sides.

"UN agencies are ready to maximally meet the goals of the program. We are confident that the strategic and coordinated approach will help the UN to provide more effective assistance to Georgia" McGoldrick stressed.
