Inflation hits four percent in Uzbekistan

Inflation hit four percent on the Uzbek consumer market in January-June compared to 3.6 percent during the same period last year, the Uzbek State Statistics Committee reported.

According to the committee, food prices increased by three percent since early 2010 compared to 3.7 percent last year. Non-food prices increased by 2.3 percent compared to 1.3 percent last year, and paid services to the population increased in price by 9.4 percent compared to 6.5 percent.

The average monthly inflation rate was 0.6 percent - the same rate as in January-June 2009. Food prices increased on average by 0.5 percent compared to 0.6 percent a year earlier. At the same time, the average price increase on non-food items was 0.4 percent compared to 0.2 percent last year, with services prices rising by 1.5 percent per month compared to 1.1 percent.

Inflation on the consumer market reached 7.4 percent in 2009.
