Finance Minister to announce funds for social projects in Azerbaijan

The amount of funds to be allocated for the realization of State Program on socio-economic development of Baku and its towns for 2011-2013 and a number of social projects in Azerbaijan will be announced by the end of this week, Finance Minister Samir Sharifov told reporters on Monday.

"Preliminary work in this regard has already been completed, and the figure will be announced by the end of the week," said Sharifov.

He said upon the instructions of President Ilham Aliyev, certain steps must be taken in the social sphere.

"The amount of pensions, social benefits will be revised, and there are plans to implement a number of social projects," said Sharifov.

President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev on May 4 has signed an order approving the State Program on socio-economic development of Baku city and its districts for 2011-2013, the Azerbaijani President's official website reported.

Under the order, the Cabinet of Ministers was instructed to take measures in cooperation with the central and local executive authorities to ensure the implementation of the State program, in cooperation with the Ministry of Economic Development and Ministry of Finance to annually ensure the compilation and accounting of public investment programs for the activities to be undertaken during this period.

Ministry of Economic Development and the Baku City Executive Power were instructed to coordinate activities under the State program, as well as to annually inform the Azerbaijani President of the implementation of the program activities.
