Azerbaijan's non-oil industry ups by almost 11 percent

The industrial production in Azerbaijan totaled 12.4 billion manat in January-May, which is 1.1 percent less than the same period of 2010, the State Statistics Committee said.

The industrial production in Azerbaijan totaled 12.4 billion manat in January-May, which is 1.1 percent less than the same period of 2010, the State Statistics Committee said.
The private sector's share decreased by 4.2 percent and made up 78.5 percent of the total industrial production compared to the same period of 2010. Some 91.5 percent accounted for industrial production, and 8.5 percent for industrial services. Production in the non-oil industry grew by 10.6 percent.
During the report period, the volume of production in the extractive industry decreased by 3.6 percent and amounted to 9.3 billion manat with a special weight of 75.2 percent of the total industrial production. The volume of oil during this period hit 20 million tons and natural gas - 10.7 billion cubic meters
The share of the processing industry was 2.3 billion manat, increasing by 7.3 percent. A significant increase was observed in motor vehicles, trailer and semitrailer production (by 56.7 percent), electrical equipment production (63.9 percent), metallurgical production (66.7 percent) and chemical production (27.5 percent).
Also a significant increase of 8.5 percent was observed in food production. Sausage production grew by 4.6 percent to 792.7 tons, meat by 4.6 percent (106,700 tons), milk by 5.4 percent (293,300 tons), butter by 0.8 percent (8,700 tons), cheese and cottage cheese by 2.2 percent (18,300 tons), and sugar by 27.2 percent (143,000 tons).
The official exchange rate is 0.7878 manat to $1 on June 17.
