Kazakhstan must rank second on gold production among the CIS countries, Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev said in Astana.
"We set the goal to produce 70 tons of gold [annually]," he said at the Industrial Innovation Forum. "It will be the second place in the former Soviet Union after Russia. We will raise production. Today we produce 40 tons."
The President said that there are 120 gold deposits in Kazakhstan.
The President recalled that there was time when $ 450 million was required to create the national currency.
"The aggregate gold reserves of Kazakhstan is $80 billion," Nazarbayev said.
