Kazakh, Chinese railways to dock in December

Kazakh and Chinese railways near Zhetigen-Khorgos and Jinghe-Khorgas will dock on Dec. 1, spokesman for Kazakhstan Temir Joly Elena Trifonova told Trend by phone on Friday.

"This agreement was achieved during a meeting of Kazakhstan Temir Joly's President Askar Mamin and Chinese deputy railways minister Lu Dunfu in Pekin on Oct. 19.

According to Trifonova, this railway section with the carrying capacity of 18 million tons per year will be the briefest possible way for cargo transported from Russia, China and European countries through Central Asia.

"The new border passage will relief the Dostyk-Alashankou railway passage -- the only border section functioning between Kazakhstan and China," she said.

According to Trifonova, all clients of the railway have been informed about plans to open a new border passage.

Kazakhstan Temir Joly's President Askar Mamin and Chinese deputy railways minister Lu Dunfu had a meeting to discuss the upcoming docking of the Kazakh and Chinese railways near Altynkol and Khorgos station, opening a traffic functioning through the new border passage, increasing carrying capacity of the Dostyk - Alashankoy railway section, delivering Kazakh grain to China and its transiting via China, and the joint development of the International Centre of Border Cooperation Khorgos.
