Iran’s non-oil exports on the rise

The Iranian customs administration has released a report on the Islamic Republic's trade during the first 10 months of the current calendar year, starting on March 21, 2011, showing that the value of non-oil exports has been increased compared to the same period last year.

The report says that the ratio of non-oil exports (including gas condensates) to imports reached 0.7, indicating that imports have declined and exports have increased in the mentioned period. Comparative 10-month imports and exports year on year

Non-oil exports in the first 10 months of the current year amounted to 61,931 tons, worth 35.137 billion dollar, compared to 57,852 tons, worth 26.649 billion dollar , for the same period in last year.

Meanwhile, imports stood at 30,607 in weight and 50.369 billion dollar in value in the current year's first 10 months. The figures were 37,603 tons and 53.445 billion dollar in the same period of last year, respectively.

The UAE, China, South Korea, Germany and Turkey were the main exporters of goods to Iran with 32.68 per ent, 11.61 per cent, 7.74 per cent, 5.91 per cent, and 5.51 per cent of the share respectively, leaving 36.55 per cent of the share in total exports to Iran from other countries.

According to the report, China, Iraq, the UAE, India and Afghanistan were the main importers of Iranian goods with 17.15 per cent, 14.7 per cent, 14.3 per cent, 8.48 per cent and 6.17 per cent, respectively.

Iran's balance trade with Iraq, Afghanistan, India, Indonesia and Azerbaijan was positive, while the balance with the UAE, South Korea, Germany, Switzerland and Turkey was negative.

In the first 10 months of the current year, 14,067 cars, worth $72 million, were exported which is some 70 per cent less than the previous year's figure. Some 96 per cent of cars were exported to Iraq, less than one per cent to Germany and the African state of Benin.

Meanwhile, 33,013 cars, worth 682 million dollar were imported in the mentioned period showing a10 per cent decline compared with the same period last year. South Korea, the UAE and Oman were the main exporters of cars to Iran with 46 per cent, 38 per cent and five per cent of share, respectively. The imported cars from South Korea were cheaper than those which were imported from the UAE, the report says.
