Six countries provide 90 percent of foreign investments in Azerbaijan since early 2012

The total volume of foreign investments in Azerbaijan's economy in January-February 2012 amounted to 398.1 million manat, which is 23.6 per cent more than the same period of 2011, the State Statistics Committee said on Friday.

In January-February, 89.7 percent (357.1 million manat) of investments in Azerbaijan's economy made by foreign countries and international organizations accounted for investors from the UK, U.S., Japan, Norway, Turkey and Czech Republic.

As before, the UK continues to preserve its a leading position in this list. Its share in total foreign investments hit 44.7 percent, while its investments amounted to 177.9 million manat.

Investments of the U.S. amounted to 68.57 million manat (17.2 per cent), Japan - 45.48 million manat (11.4 percent), Norway - 25.17 million manat (6.3 percent), Turkey - 19.9 million manat (5 percent), France - 9.2 million manat (2.3 percent), Italy - 63,000 manat, German - 983,900 manat, Czech - 20.04 million manat (5.1 percent).

From international financial institutions, the World Bank invested 17.47 million manat with share of 4.4 percent, the Asian Development Bank - 13.26 million manat ((3.3 percent).

The official exchange rate is 0.7863 manat to $1 on March 16.
