In Kazakhstan, agricultural enterprises in the southern regions have started their spring fieldwork, the agriculture ministry said on Tuesday.

The ministry said the sowing of spring cereals crops has been implemented on 53 percent of the land, oil on 35 percent, perennial grasses on 81 percent, vegetables and melons, and potatoes on 25 percent of the sown area. Preparation for the fieldwork is being implemented in other areas.

According to preliminary data it is planed to place agricultural crops on the area of ​​21.5 million hectares in 2012, or 1.3 percent more than in 2011. Spring planting area is projected at 18.8 million hectares, or 0.1 million hectares, or 0.5 percent more than last
year's level.

Cereals will be placed on an area of ​​about 16.2 million hectares, including wheat - on 13.5 million hectares. In comparison with last year, placing area of wheat will decrease by 0.3 million hectares. The figure was 13.8 million hectares in 2011.
