Azerbaijan's customs office reveals 8237 offenses in I half of year, Chairman of State Customs Committee (SCC) Aydin Aliyev said during a speech at a Cabinet meeting chaired by the President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and dedicated to the socio-economic development in the first half of 2012 and the upcoming challenges.
During the reporting period, the customs authorities revealed 37 facts of smuggling of narcotics, seized 5.8 kilograms of narcotic drugs and 6.2 kilograms of psychotropic substances.
"Some 180 businesses and 7912 individuals were brought to justice by 8119 facts of administrative violations in the period. The customs authorities fined them in the amount of 563,000 manat and confiscated goods worth 100,000 manat," Aydin Aliyev said.
At the same time, Customs seized three hunting weapons and 200 units of ammunition, 79 air guns, three firearms and 19 pieces of ammunition, 8 knives, 5 tons of diesel fuel, 780 mobile phones and other items.
"Some 767 liters and 25,937 units of alcoholic beverages, and tobacco products worth to 76.3 thousand manat were seized as a result of preventive measures to combat the smuggling of excise goods," the head of the SCC said.
