Agricultural production ups by 10 percent in Azerbaijan

Agricultural products amounting to 1.970.6 billion manat were produced in Azerbaijan in the first half of this year or 9.9 percent more than in January - June 2011, the State Statistics Committee said today.

Thus, the production of vegetable products increased by 17.5 percent, livestock production - by 5.5 percent, the fish were caught to the amount of 68,800 manat.

As of June 22, about 373,700 hectares were plowed under spring crops in Azerbaijan, or 5.9 percent less than during the same period last year.

About 67,500 hectares (18 percent of the crop) were plowed under the grains and grain legumes, potatoes - 66,000 hectares (17.6 percent), vegetables - 78,000 hectares (20.9 percent), melons - 30,000 hectares (eight percent), cotton - 29,100 hectares (7.8 percent), sunflower seeds - 10,700 hectares (2.9 percent), and so on.

Meat production increased by 3.2 percent and amounted to 214,600 tons in the first six months of this year, milk - 856,400 tons (an increase of 7.3 percent), eggs - 600.4 million units (an increase of 16 percent) compared to the same period of last year.

The official exchange rate is 0.7857 AZN/USD on July 17.
