Azerbaijan achieves over 80 percent of annual crop forecast

As of July 16, Azerbaijan has collected 2.213 million tons of autumn and spring crops, which is 8.7 percent more than the figure for the same period last year, the Azerbaijani Agriculture Ministry said on Tuesday.

During the reporting period, 836,650 hectares (an increase of 1.9 percent).out of 995,890 hectares of area under crop (an increase over the year by 5.1 per cent) was cultivated.

The yield of grain crops as a whole increased from 24.8 to 26.4 quintals per hectare (an increase of 6.5 percent) during the year.

As of July 16, the country harvested 1.5 million tons of wheat, which is 6 percent more than the same period of 2011. Yield of this crop during the year increased from 25.3 to 27.2 quintals per hectare.

If last year the country collected about 2.5 million tons of grain, this year the Agriculture Ministry expects to collect at least 2.7 million tons.
