Radical modernization of coastal structures is launched in the international seaport, Neutral Turkmenistan wrote on Friday.

"Area of the port will increase from 40 to 150 hectares, and the capacity will increase from 10 to 25 million tons of cargo a year after the completion of construction of new cargo-handling facilities in 2020," the article says.

The turnover increase of the international sea port is due to the fact that the domestic fleet and foreign vessels delivers high-tech materials, tile marble, granite, lumber, industrial and agricultural equipment, service vehicles, metal products and other goods in large volumes.

They come from the ports of Turkey, Russia, Iran, United Arab Emirates, South Korea and other countries near and far abroad. Shippers and foreign economic partners of Turkmenistan in China, Canada, USA, Ukraine, Malaysia, UK, Germany, Austria, Japan, the Netherlands and Europe used the Port.

As stated in the article, flow of goods from the ports of the Far East is especially intensive. Trading path of thousands of nautical miles through the Suez and the Volga-Don shipping channels connected the port of Turkmenbashi with the largest port cities in the Pacific, Indian and Atlantic oceans. Entire plants, large-sized units, engineering units, production equipment for oil and gas sector, and heavy machinery on the track and wheeled arrived in Turkmenistan in modular design.

Intense international shipping routes linked the port of Turkmenbashi with commercial harbors of all the Caspian countries, promoting stability and increasing growth of trade. Cement, chipboard, paint, plaster, laminates, construction and fittings, metal and composite pipes and other cargo arrive in Turkmenbashi in large quantities from neighbors.

Thousands of tons of high quality products of domestic enterprises, including light and heavy oil, coke, polypropylene and other highly liquid derivatives of deep processing of oil and natural gas imported from Turkmenistan.

Turnover of the Turkmen merchant fleet increased by 19.4 percent to 216.3 million ton-kilometers in the first half of this year.
