Assets of Turkish banking sector increase

The assets of the Turkish banking sector increased by 4.6 percent in the first half of 2012 compared to the same period in 2011, amounting to 1.247 trillion lire, the state agency for regulation of the banking sector in Turkey (BDDK) said on Monday.

The volume of loans granted by Turkish banks increased by eight percent in January-June compared to the same period in 2011, amounting to 737.2 billion lire.

According to the report, the income of the banking sector in Turkey increased by 11.4 percent compared to the same period in 2011, reaching 11.552 billion lire.

The number of branches of Turkish banks increased by 191 units all over Turkey in the first half of 2012.

Currently there are 45 banks operating in the country.

Official exchange rate on Aug.6 is 1.7795 TRY/USD.
