IRZ to participate in reform of penal system in Azerbaijan

The German Foundation for International Legal Cooperation (IRZ) will take part in the reform of the penitentiary system in Azerbaijan, the fund coordinator in the country Rashad Huseynli told Trend.

The German Foundation for International Legal Cooperation (IRZ) will take part in the reform of the penitentiary system in Azerbaijan, the fund coordinator in the country Rashad Huseynli told Trend.

"We are cooperating with the prison service of the Ministry of Justice and have already conducted a number of activities. On November 26-27 a seminar will be held with the participation of German specialists," Huseynli said.

According to him, an annual summer school for Azerbaijani judges and lawyers is held by the foundation on the implementation of the European Convention for the protection of human rights and fundamental freedoms.

"In addition, we have plans to cooperate with the Baku State University. Also in the coming days we are planning to hold an event on the fight against cybercrime in cooperation with the Ministry of Justice.

"Next year legal notarial activities will continue in the form of statutory consultations and seminars. This especially concerns private notaries in Azerbaijan. With the assistance of the fund, the introduction possibilities of electronic patent courts are being researched in Azerbaijan, " Huseynli said.

According to him, the cooperation between Azerbaijan and the IRZ is implemented in the form of consultation and exchange of experience, as well as participation of fund specialists in improving legislation.

"This organisation is a partner in the implementation of specific projects. This fund cannot be called a donor as it does not give grants, but they are almost fully funding their services," Huseynli said.
