Iran produced over 214.2 million square meters of tiles and ceramics in the first nine months of the current Iranian calendar year which began on March 20, 2012, an official with the ministry of Industry, Mine and Trade said on Monday.
The amount shows 6 per cent increase compared to the same period last year, IRNA quoted Mohammad Fatemian as saying.
"Output hit 25.24 million square metres in the ninth month of calendar year (November 21 - December 20) which is 4.4 per cent more that previous year's figure of 24.18 million square meters," he added.
According to the Head of the Tile Producers and Sellers Union, Mostafa Goudarzi, 80 percent of Iran's tiles and ceramics production are exported to Iraq.
He referred to Afghanistan and Uzbekistan as other destinations for Iranian-made products.
He added that some $270 million worth of tiles were exported last year.
