Construction of a new major container port, Asyaport which is located in the province of Tekirdag will be completed in Turkey in 2013, the Zaman newspaper said on Monday.
Reportedly, the port will be the third largest port in Europe. The port's construction was launched in 2009, it will be put into operation in October 2013. About 2.5 million containers will be annually transshipped through Asyaport.
It is expected that the port will operate at full capacity by 2016. The total investment in Asyaport's construction reached $ 450 million.
In addition, the new container port will be the deepest in Turkey, and will be able to receive large ships.
