Kazakh Majilis approves draft law increasing EBRD powers

On Wednesday, the Majilis (Lower Chamber of the Kazakh Parliament) approved a draft law increasing the powers of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), the Majilis said.

Under the approved draft law, the EBRD would be authorized to carry out activities in Southern and Eastern Mediterranean countries.

An amendment to the Agreement on the establishment of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development that authorizes EBRD activity in the Southern and Eastern Mediterranean states was approved via EBRD Board of Governors' Resolution No.137 dated Sept.30, 2011.

The purpose of the amendment is the authorization of the bank to operate in Southern and Eastern Mediterranean nations.
