Azerbaijan will conduct Financial Literacy Months, head of the Development Department of the Central Bank of Azerbaijan (CBA), Asif Jahangirov said on Wednesday.

"Improving financial literacy is one of the strategic objectives of the CBA. The global economic crisis has increased the value of financial literacy so much that the problem came into the focus of the world's leading financial institutions. Financial literacy has become one of the components of modern children's education worldwide," Jahangirov said.

According to him, the International Day of Deposits was for the first time celebrated in 2012 in Azerbaijan at the CBA's initiative.

"At that time, the event was attended by the Azerbaijan Deposit Insurance Fund (ADIF), the German Savings Banks Foundation for International Cooperation (SBFIC) and four commercial banks. This year the number of banks has increased to nine. Given the growing interest to this event, we decided not to limit ourselves with only one day and hold the Financial Literacy Month during November," Jahangirov said.

According to him, this year the target audience of the project will be students and young families.

"Representatives of the country's banks will visit 15 schools in Baku and 11 - in the regions, where they will hold educational events, competitions and quizzes on specified topics," Jahangirov said.

He went on to say that open days will also be held by the banks. According to Jahangirov, during these open days, employees of the branches will inform participants about the principles of banks and other aspects.
