Over 9.174 million tons of steel ingot were produced in Iran during the first seven months of the current calendar year which started on March 21, the public relations office of the Iranian Mines and Mining Industries Development and Renovation Organization (IMIDRO) said on November 20.

The figure shows a nine per cent increase compared to the same period last year," the IRIB News Agency reported.

More than 1.38 million tons of steel ingots were also produced in the seventh calendar month of Mehr (September 23 -October 22).

Iran's steel products output surpassed 9.735 million tons in the first seven months of the current year.

The country's ingot production in the seventh month of the year stood at 1.357 million tons.

The World Steel Association said in its latest press release that Iran produced 1.364 million tons of crude steel in September 2013.

The figure shows a 10.7 per cent increase compared to the same month in the previous year, the IRIB News Agency reported.

The country's total output in the first three quarters of 2013 amounted to 11.318 million tons.

World crude steel production for the 65 countries reporting to the WSA was 132.54 million tons in September 2012, up 6.1 per cent compared to September 2013.

World crude steel production in the first nine months of 2013 was 1.168 billion tons, an increase of 2.7 per cent compared to the same period of 2012.

Iran's crude steel production reached 14.89 million tons in the previous Iranian calendar year which ended on March 20.

Iran plans to increase its annual steel output to 55 million tons by the end of the Fifth Five-Year Development Plan (2015).
