Azerbaijan is not going to cut funding for sport sphere after the first European games in Baku in 2015, the Minister of Youth and Sport of Azerbaijan Azad Rahimov told Trend Feb.11.

"A special system of financing of sport has been already developed in our country, and it cannot be changed," said Rahimov. "The number of sporting events is growing from year to year. Along with this, the Summer Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro will be held next year. Special training of athletes is underway for these games. The necessary work on preparation of the reserves is being carried out. Considering these facts, it is difficult to imagine that there will be any changes in the direction of financing of sport in Azerbaijan."

He said that the budget of the first European Games in Baku consists of two parts.

"The first part is included in the state investment program approved until 2018," the minister said. "Sport is taken into account in it among other areas as well. The second part is a budget of the Operating Committee of the first European games. It includes the costs for salaries, technological systems, temporary facilities, communications, PR and daily expenses. Some 950 million AZN has been allocated for this purpose, more than 300 million AZN of which has already been spent. The other part of these investments is directed at the construction of the Olympic Stadium, aquatics Complex, trap shooting Complex and so on."

Baku 2015 is the first European Games ever, an exciting and innovative multi-sport event for the continent that will take place from June 12-28, 2015.

The European Olympic Committees (EOC) awarded the games to Baku in December 2012. The Baku European Games Operations Committee (BEGOC) will organize and run the Games in co-operation with the EOC.
