Baku, Azerbaijan, June 11
By Anvar Mammadov – Trend:
Development of accreditation system in Azerbaijan will significantly expand access for Azerbaijani exporters to the world markets, Sabig Abdullayev, head of the Accreditation Center at the State Committee for Standardization, Metrology and Patent of Azerbaijan, told Trend.
He said that considering the current trends of the Azerbaijani economy, where the main emphasis is made on the manufacturing of export-oriented products, the role of accreditation becomes very important.
“Accreditation is a technical barrier - if the result of accreditation is not recognized, exporters, along with checks and certification inside the country, have to re-pass the same procedure in an importing country, which means additional costs and time loss,” he noted. “Therefore, the main task is to receive recognition from international accreditation bodies, and expand the access of local exporters to the world market.”
He added that Azerbaijan Accreditation Center is preparing to become an associate member of the European co-operation for Accreditation (EA).
An appropriate decision will be made during the next meeting of the EA General Assembly, which will be held in Berlin in November.
The Center further plans to become a full member of the EA, Abdullayev added.
President Ilham Aliyev signed a decree on additional measures to improve management in the areas of metrology, accreditation and protection of patent rights on February 11, 2017.
Under the decree, Azerbaijan Accreditation Center was established.
The center ensures compliance with the principles and rules of accreditation, accredits structures for conformity assessment (confirmation), and carries out representation in international structures in this field.
