By Rufiz Hafizoglu – Trend:

Turkey intends to develop marine tourism in its coastal provinces to increase the number of incoming tourists, a source in Turkish Ministry of Culture and Tourism told Trend.

To this end, it is planned to reconstruct a number of important ports in the coastal provinces.

Certain ports in the Istanbul, Antalya and Izmir cities will be reconstructed in the first place, according to the source.

It is also planned to purchase large yachts for marine cruises.

“Turkey has the necessary potential for developing marine tourism and conducting cruises,” the source noted.

According to the Turkish Statistical Institute, the country’s revenues from tourism increased by 8.7 percent in 2Q17 compared to the same period of 2016, to reach $5.413 billion.

Meanwhile, 12.249 million foreigners visited Turkey in January-June 2017, which is 14.05 percent more than in 1H16.
