Turkmenistan building urea plant on Caspian Sea coast

A report was read out at a meeting of Turkmenistan’s Cabinet of Ministers on the progress of construction of a plant for production of 1.155 million tons of urea per year in the Garabogaz city of Balkan region, the Turkmenistan TV channel reported Sept. 23.

According to the report, at this stage, construction, installation and commissioning work is being carried out at an accelerated pace.

Earlier, it was reported that the plant is being built by Japan’s Mitsubishi Corporation and Turkey’s Gap Insaat. The plant will produce mineral fertilizers from raw materials supplied via the East-West gas transportation system from natural gas fields: 2,000 tons of ammonia and 3,500 tons of urea per day.

The plant will be the biggest enterprise of this kind in the country and the contract is estimated at approximately $1.3 billion. The convenient location of the enterprise on the shore of the Caspian Sea will allow sending products to consumers, both by road and by sea.
