South Kazakhstan’s agriculture production exceeds $1 billion

The volume of gross agricultural output produced in the South Kazakhstan region amounted to 497.8 billion tenge ($1.7 billion) in 11 months of 2017, the press service of South Kazakhstan said in a message.

Agricultural producers of the region exceeded their annual plan by 82 billion tenge, mainly due to the increase on sown lands.

“Despite unfavorable weather conditions, farmers have reached great achievements: they managed to harvest 116,000 tons of fruits, 963,000 tons of vegetables, 293,000 tons of potatoes and 1.3 million tons of melons. The yield of wheat and barley amounted to 18 centners per 1 hectare. The agrarians of the have also planted 165 hectares of walnut and 7 hectares of almonds, which is a leading indicator in Kazakhstan,” according to the message.

In addition, new greenhouses were built on 190 hectares of land. Currently the total area of greenhouses in South Kazakhstan exceeds 1,300 hectares, which is 80 percent of the total share in the country.

As for cattle breeding, the number of cattle heads reached 897,000, sheep and goats - 3.9 million, horses – 278,000, camels – 25,000, and birds - 2.6 million. At the same time, the farmers of the region produced 193,000 tons of meat and 674,000 tons of milk.

Since the beginning of the year, 3,085 new feeding grounds, 782 dairy farms, 22 poultry farms and 10 fish farms were opened in the region.
