Kazakhstan remains Japan’s main Central Asian trade partner

Trade turnover between Kazakhstan and Japan amounted to $1.3 billion in January-November 2017, which is the highest result among the Central Asian countries and the second among the CIS countries (first is Russia), cooperating with Japan, a source in the Japan External Trade Organization told Trend.

Level of trade between the countries remained virtually unchanged, increasing only by $156,000.

Value of exports from Japan to Kazakhstan in the mentioned period amounted to $255.9 million and volume of imports from Kazakhstan to Japan amounted to $1.1 billion, the source added.

Kazakhstan trade surplus increased notably to $1.80 billion in November 2017 from $1.28 billion in the corresponding month in 2016. The exports surged by 24.1 percent to $4.57 billion, whilst imports advanced at a slower 15 percent to $2.76 billion.

In Jan.-Nov. 2017, the trade surplus rose by 67.8 percent to $16.7 billion. Sales jumped by 31.6 percent to $43.1 billion, boosted by shipments of mineral products (68.4 percent of total exports); metals (18.2 percent) and chemicals and allied industries products (5.2 percent).

In the meantime, imports grew at a softer 15.8 percent to $26.4 billion, driven by purchases of machinery, equipment, vehicles and tools (37.1 percent of total imports); chemicals and allied industry products (16.9 percent) and metals (11.7 percent).

Kazakhstan's main export partners were Italy (17.8 percent) and China (12 percent) while the leading importers were Russia (39.1 percent) and China (16.1 percent).
