Kazakhstan’s Almaty region plans to construct 7 hydroelectric power stations (HPP).

The region also intends to construct a new reservoir, which is expected to increase the area of ​​irrigated land by approximately 17,000 hectares, according to the head of the Sarkan district of the region Ergazy Koshanbekov, Kazakh media outlets reported.

“The construction of 2 hydroelectric power stations with a capacity of 4.5 mW by the Energomost company is scheduled for 2018. We also plan to start construction of one of them in 2019 and the rest are planned to be constructed in 2020. In total, we plan to launch 7 HPPs in the next 3 years," said the official.

In 2018 the region intends to attract investments worth 5.3 billion tenge (nearly $154.7 million) for the implementation of 4 major investment projects.
