Baku, Azerbaijan, June 12
By Maksim Tsurkov - Trend:
The opening of major logistics center “Absheron” located in Lokbatan settlement of Garadagh district of Baku is planned for late June this year, a source in the logistics center told Trend June 12.
The center was built on the route of the Great Silk Road, according to the source.
“The Great Silk Road railway will pass through the station of the “Absheron” center,” the source said. “The main goal is the handling of cargoes that will be transported along this route without loading the central part of Baku. This is the optimal place for unloading and loading of cargo. The first stage is ready. Three warehouses with an area of 2,700 square meters each, six railway lines for unloading, a customs point that will operate on a “single window” principle have been built as part of this stage. The railway station of the center received an official international code.”
The representative of the center noted that each of the railway lines is capable of receiving 30 freight cars.
“In general, the center will be able to receive 1,400 containers simultaneously,” the source noted. “The crane will be installed soon. Warehouses will be leased to freight carriers at competitive rates. Operation of the wholesale and retail markets is also envisaged. There are a number of logistics companies interested in the project.”
The project is being implemented through private investments with government support. The cost of the center’s creation isn’t disclosed.
The total area of the center is 65.7 hectares.
