Wheat harvesting has started in the Balkan and Dashoguz provinces of Turkmenistan, Turkmenpagta (Turkmencotton) state concern of Turkmenistan said in a message June 13.
The harvesting campaign started in the Akhal, Lebap and Mary provinces of Turkmenistan June 6 due to climatic conditions.
Turkmenistan plans to collect 1.6 million tons of grain from 760,000 hectares of land in 2018, including 450,000 tons in Akhal province, 380,000 tons in Mary, 350,000 tons in Lebap, 300,000 tons in Dashoguz and 120,000 tons in Balkan province.
The harvesting campaign involves grain harvesting equipment manufactured by John Deere and CLAAS companies.
In July 2017, it was reported that the country harvested about one million tons of wheat. Turkmenistan has previously received a special award by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations for achievements in the field of food security.
