Baku, Azerbaijan, July 3

By Rufiz Hafizoglu – Trend:

The length of the Istanbul metro lines will be increased by 600 kilometers, a source in the Turkish Ministry of Transport, Maritime Affairs and Communications told Trend July 3.

Increasing the length of the Istanbul metro lines is a necessity, since the current lines don’t fully cover all districts of Istanbul, according to the source.

“This issue is under development,” the source noted.

It is expected that by the end of 2019, the length of the Istanbul metro lines will be increased by 110 kilometers.

If the project to increase the length of the metro lines is approved, foreign investors may be attracted.

Presently, Istanbul’s metro consists of eight lines, six of which are in the European part of the city. There are about 70 stations in Istanbul metro, the length of its lines is 160 kilometers.

Previously, it was reported that 10.8 billion Turkish liras will be invested in development of Turley's railway infrastructure in 2018.

The work is underway in Turkey to implement 50 transport and communication projects.
