France to assist Uzbekistan in developing aviation sector

The seventh meeting of the Uzbek-French Intergovernmental Commission for Trade and Economic Cooperation was held at the Foreign Ministry of France, Uzbek media reported.

More than 50 representatives of official, business and expert circles of the two countries took part in the meeting. The delegation of Uzbekistan was headed by Deputy Prime Minister Sukhrob Kholmuradov, the French side was represented by Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian.

The French foreign minister noted that a new page opens today in diplomatic relations between the two countries. He expressed full support for Tashkent's regional policy for ensuring peace and stability in Central Asia, including efforts to stabilize the situation in Afghanistan.

Secretary of the French Foreign Ministry Jean Baptiste Lemoine expressed his country's readiness to assist Uzbekistan in implementing joint projects in such areas as aviation and other industries, oil and gas and mining, textile and agriculture.

Sukhrob Kholmurodov and First Deputy Chairman of the Senate of the Uzbek Parliament Sadik Safayev briefed the audience on current social and economic situation in Uzbekistan and conditions for foreign investors.

During the event, the representatives of Airbus, Thales, Veolia, Sagemcom, BPIFrance, the National Center for Space Studies of France, the French Development Agency, the Finance Ministry made presentations.

From the Uzbek side, the presentations were presented by the National Bank, State Committee for Tourism, State Committee for Investments and a number of other companies.
