Russia may provide discounts for railway cargo transportation from Uzbekistan

Russia may provide special tariffs for railway transportation of cargo from Uzbekistan, Uzbek media reported citing a statement of Chairman of the Board of Russian Railways Oleg Belozerov.

During his visit to Tashkent, Belozerov said Russia is currently developing special tariffs, which will provide up to 50 percent of discounts for transportation of goods to/from Central Asia, and, in particular, for transportation of mineral fertilizers, non-ferrous metals and other products of Uzbekistan.

Since early 2018, Uzbekistan Railways has provided a number of benefits for transportation of certain types of goods in the Uzbek territory for such countries as Tajikistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan and Russia.

Kazakh, Turkmen, Russian, Ukrainian, Georgian, Iranian partners also provided preferences for transportation of goods from Uzbekistan.

Total length of railways in Uzbekistan exceeds 7,000 kilometers. The share of railway transportation in the total freight turnover is 52 percent.

In recent years, 44 electric freight locomotives, 15 high-speed electric passenger locomotives and 10 diesel passenger locomotives have been purchased by Uzbekistan from China and Russia.
