Over 18 million tons of grain harvested in Kazakhstan

More than 18.17 million tons of grain were harvested in Kazakhstan as of October 3, Kazinform reported.

Thus farmers harvested more than 13.45 million hectares by the reporting date, according to the Agriculture Ministry of the country, which makes up 89.5 percent of the total harvesting area of the regions of Kazakhstan. The average yield was 13.5 centners per hectare.

Last year, the grain statistics were slightly higher. As of the same date in 2017, as many as 21.22 million tons of grain were harvested from 15.17 million hectares, which equaled 99 percent of the total harvesting area of the regions. The average yield was 14 centners per hectare.

This year in Kazakhstan, the harvesting areas make up 15.03 million hectares, while in 2017 they equaled 15.32 million hectares. During the sowing campaign this year, the territory with a total area of 15.12 million hectares was sown, while last year it was 15.41 million hectares.

Summer drought in western Kazakhstan and the high humidity in the center and north affected the volumes of grain harvest in the country's regions.

The highest average yield this year – 17 centners per hectare – is observed in the North Kazakhstan region. Twelve centners are harvested in Karaganda and Akmola regions, followed by Kostanay with 11 centners.
